Melissa began her career as a nurse cadet in 2000 at St James Hospital Leeds,
before training as a nurse at the University of Leeds. She finally qualified in 2008 after a gap year and having two children.
She worked at St James A&E until 2009 before beginning her career in practice nursing at Lincoln Green Medical Centre. Current qualifications include AdvDip Nursing, BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing. She has completed diplomas in COPD, asthma, heart failure, smoking cessation and Spirometry ARTP.
In 2015 she completed the NHS leadership academy frontline programme and also joined the Primary Care Respiratory Leaders Management Team. This team plans and develops a clinical leadership programme for primary care clinicians.
September 2016 Melissa left her job as a practice nurse for a 12 month contract at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust as Respiratory Nurse Specialist. September 2017 Respiratory Care Solutions secured a contract with a collaboration of GP practices to standarised care and reduce variation. Melissa currently works as a primary care Respiratory Nurse Specialist within this collaboration that has now extended to 12 practices. She is also the Locality Lead Nurse for Leeds 8 & 9 in the new Local Care Partnersips in Leeds.
Melissa is passionate about education, leadership and quality improvement and has just started her journey to become a Buddhist Chaplain for the hospitals and prisons.
